Preparation, Planning and Journeying I (PP+JI)
This year we are making a slight change to PP&J I. Melissa Maynard is going to be leading the course this year. At her request, we are going to make it a women only class. If you haven't had the opportunity to experience Melissa's enthusiasm and teaching style, you don't want to miss this!
This class is designed for folks who have paddled a bit and are thinking of going further into the marine environment.
The first two days will be spent in relatively sheltered waters of Boothbay, working on personal paddling skills and rescues. Nights will be spent learning how to obtain the information necessary to plan a safe trip. Sessions will include; but not be limited to, navigation, communication, weather, trip planning, and equipment.
On the morning of the third day, we will travel a short distance on land to begin a journey on Muscongus Bay. We will spend the next three days paddling and camping in this often overlooked Bay in Mid Coast Maine. If conditions are right, we may make the crossing to Eastern Egg Rock to the most southern colony of Atlantic Puffins.
Duration: 5 Days - 2 Days Training and 3 Days Journeying
Prerequisties: BCU 2-3 Star Skills or equivalent

Although we have some equipment available, the progression through the PP+J scheme would anticipate that each individual paddler will be responsible for their own kit appropriate to the conditions.
